Weekend Review - Bucanero Lands Group 1 & We go close again

Weekend Reflections - Phoenix Stakes

Bucanero Fuerte takes the G1 Phoenix Stakes

The Phoenix Stakes: Bucanero Fuerte confirms the form & lands the Phoenix stakes.

Our prediction came through as BUCANERO FUERTE triumphed in the Phoenix Stakes, maintaining his perfect record at the course, making it 3 wins from 3 races at the Curragh.

He confirmed his supremacy over his old rival UNQUESTIONABLE, who finished fourth, probably not his true running, possibly due to pre-race playing up in the stalls.

I highlighted PORTA FORTUNA as a potential contender, and she put in a strong performance by securing second place in what appeared to be a competitive race on paper.

In reality, BUCANERO FUERTE was dominant and secured victory well before the final furlong. His progress continues, and his performance suggests that softer ground suits him well.

Already priced at 12-1 for the 2000 Guineas, it seems likely that a step up in distance is in the cards for one of AMO's standout juvenile horses of the season.

Gone too early ?πŸ”œ.

My NAP was a 7/1 shot that was backed into 5/1 in the Rose of Lancaster Stakes at York. MIDNIGHT MILE travelled well; however, it became apparent that she took the lead and went for home prematurely.

This strategic move provided the chasing pack with a clear target to focus on. As a result, the horses trailing behind managed to capitalise on this. Despite that, MIDNIGHT MILE showcased her tenacity by staying on and securing a solid 3rd.

Considering her performance, I believe there's merit in keeping her onside for future races.

Potential Prevails πŸ‘€.

In what was undoubtedly one of the most interesting maiden races of the season, it was the highly regarded 2.4 million guineas purchase, DIEGO VELAQUEZ, who emerged triumphant. The impeccably bred odds-on favourite showcased his potential by clinching victory with a comfortable lead of 4 3/4 lengths.

Meanwhile, my chosen horse, OLD FAITHFUL, delivered a commendable performance to secure 3rd. At one point, it appeared as though he might challenge his stablemate for the lead, but his relative inexperience became evident, causing him to fall short.

OLD FAITHFUL's pedigree makes him look well-suited for middle-distance races, and I anticipate that he will show improvement as he gains more experience and encounters longer distances.

Either way, Aidan O'Brien has even more exciting ammunition to add to his 2-year-old ranks this season.

How did we do this week? πŸ”Ž.

BUCANERO FUERTE won at 5/2 ✅

MIDNIGHT MILE finished 3rd at 7/1 πŸ₯‰(win only) ❌

OLD FAITHFUL finished 3rd at 15/2 πŸ₯‰(win only) ❌

Whilst only one horse won for us last weekend, we came close again with the others. I feel we have been very unlucky this season with most of our selections finishing in the places if they haven't won.

If you chose to back the two selections at a larger price each way then you would have gotten a small return. πŸ‘

Onto next weekend.

Please let me know how you think I can improve the blog. I will listen all suggestions and ideas.

Weekend Review - Hard Luck on the Right Track

Weekend Reflections - The Coral Eclipse       Paddington Pips Emily Upjohn Past the Post The Coral Eclipse: Paddington Proves He's top class🐻  In what turned out to be a weekend of hard luck for the blog, Paddington was out to prove me wrong & for the 3rd year in a row, the 3-year-olds reigned supreme in the Eclipse.  Speaking of the Eclipse, the race panned out very similarly to how I expected it to. West Wind Blows went forward but both Emily Upjohn & Paddington had too much speed for him. Unfortunately, Emily Upjohn lost a couple of lengths with a slow start and couldn't claw back enough ground to get in front of Paddington with his 7Ibs in hand. Nonetheless, it was a very impressive performance from both horses, but Paddington seriously has to be considered as the best 3-year-old in Europe now... someone get him a marmalade sandwich πŸ₯ͺ. Paddington and Emily Upjohn served us up an exhilarating battle in the Coral-Eclipse ...

Horse Racing Tips - 5th August

5th August - Bets for the Weekend Free Wind  Initially due to being away I wasn’t sure I’d have any bets this weekend but I’ve managed to have a look at some of the cards and some horses do appealπŸ‡ The NAP, NB & Longshot NAP (Best Bet) πŸ… Goodwood 3.00pm: Lillie Langtry Stakes (Group 2)  FREE WIND is the market favourite and it's easy to see why. She finished 5th at Ascot behind PYLEDRIVER, who has since run well in the King George last weekend.  She’s now stepping back up to 1m6f, with a course win to her name & unbeaten on any ground with soft in the description, she looks strong.  Frankie Dettori likely on board adds to her appeal. I’ll be having a bet on her now before odds shorten. FREE WIND to win at 7/4. NB (Next Best) 🀞 Doncaster 3.20pm: Novice Stakes  I've been keeping a close eye on JEFF KOONS, sired by the legendary FRANKEL and out of a DUBAWI Mare. A proven cross that produces good horses, like Derby winner ADAYAR. Earlier in t...

The York Ebor Festival - Tips for the Week

The York Ebor Festival - Fancies for the week York Racecourse There is some great racing ahead this week with racing at York taking centre stageπŸ‡ Let's hope for a successful week 🀞 Wednesday 23rd August  York 2.25pm: Acomb Stakes (Group 3)  BALLYMOUNT BOY appears to be a solid favourite in this. His close 1L finish behind VANDEEK at Goodwood, who went out to win the G1 Prix Morny next time out, hints at his potential.  That was on soft ground but given his pedigree I think he may have preference for good ground and no rain expected until Friday, conditions seem favourable. The step up to 7f could also work in his favour given his breeding & to me all signs point to a strong showing from BALLYMOUNT BOY. BALLYMOUNT BOY to win at 9/4. York 3.00pm: Great Voltiguer Stakes (Group 2) This race is quite a puzzle with a small field, which often makes picking a bet a bit tricky. GREGORY is currently leading in the betting, but this shorter distance might not be his ide...
