5th August - Bets for the Weekend
![]() |
| Free Wind |
Initially due to being away I wasn’t sure I’d have any bets this weekend but I’ve managed to have a look at some of the cards and some horses do appeal🏇
The NAP, NB & Longshot
NAP (Best Bet) 🏅
Goodwood 3.00pm: Lillie Langtry Stakes (Group 2)
FREE WIND is the market favourite and it's easy to see why. She finished 5th at Ascot behind PYLEDRIVER, who has since run well in the King George last weekend.
She’s now stepping back up to 1m6f, with a course win to her name & unbeaten on any ground with soft in the description, she looks strong.
Frankie Dettori likely on board adds to her appeal. I’ll be having a bet on her now before odds shorten.
FREE WIND to win at 7/4.
NB (Next Best) 🤞
Doncaster 3.20pm: Novice Stakes
I've been keeping a close eye on JEFF KOONS, sired by the legendary FRANKEL and out of a DUBAWI Mare. A proven cross that produces good horses, like Derby winner ADAYAR.
Earlier in the season he actually held a Derby entry, before a disappointing debut when looking green and novicey. But he showcased progress in his last outing over 1m at Newmarket, defeating an odds-on favourite from the Haggas Yard.
👀 How did he win!

Frankel colt Jeff Koons overcomes a troubled passage to somehow land this mile novice event for team Gosden & Rab Havlin to shed the maiden tag at the second time of asking at @NewmarketRace pic.twitter.com/NIG9PQkloQ
Now stepping up to 1m2f, and considering his pedigree, I'm optimistic he'll relish the trip & handle the potential softer ground well.
He could be taking on up to 4 more horses by FRANKEL, but I’m hoping the run last time out has set him up nicely & he'll continue to show improvement in this race.
JEFF KOONS to win at SP.
(No prices out yet, but I think he'll be toward the top end of the market).
Longshot 🏌
Goodwood 3.35pm: Stewards' Cup (Handicap)
My longshot selection is the promising 3-year-old, BATAL DUBAI. With just 6 runs under his belt, he has already secured 3 wins and a place, all over the 6f distance.
Notably, he defeated the 98-rated LETHAL LEVI in his last race, and the horse that finished 5th in that race has since won at Newmarket and earned a mark of 96. BATAL DUBAI runs here off a mark of 92, there's potential for him to progress further being a 3-year-old.
Being sired by PROFITABLE, he should handle the softer ground well and hopefully continue his upward trajectory.
BATAL DUBAI each way at 16/1. (4 places Antepost)
The Bets 📑
