Week Review - A Brief Look at Last Week

Week Reflections - The Weather didn't help

Mystical Power

The Weather didn't help matters this week, with Goodwood having to be called off halfway through the Saturday card. Having winners was a tough task but we managed a few.

Mystical Monday ๐Ÿ”ฎ

The week started off nicely with 2/3 coming in on Monday.

MYSTICAL POWER (Galileo x Annie Power) proved that he was bred to be a champ and disposed of his rivals smartly.  Under a top trainer in Willie Mullins, this lad could go right to the very top.

MYTHOLOGY made it 2/2 to start the day off. As I've been suggesting the softer ground & 7f seem to suit this horse. He showed his class with no potential Ballydoyle superstar lurking, he won comfortably.

ZINC WHITE couldn't make it a hat trick for the day. He travelled pretty well and looked in touch with the leaders, but fell off with the chasing pack overtaking him. He's capable of better than his 18th place suggests.

Tricky Tuesday ๐Ÿ˜‘

I only put up the 1 bet for Tuesday & that was COLTRANE in the Goodwood Cup. Whilst he did as I thought he might & reverse the form with COURAGE MON AMI. It meant nothing.

Tom Marquand & QUICKTHORN got themselves an easy lead. They kept stretching & the other jockeys need to have a long hard look at themselves after letting QUICKTHORN win in that manner, as he did the exact same thing at York last year.

No Winner Wednesday❌

BREEGE started the day with a smart 2nd place at 9/1. I thought she'd handle the ground and for a moment she looked like winning.  She was just beaten by a horse who had the benefit of running on the near side rail. Unlucky.

I was quite confident that BAHEER could get the business done for the Hannon operation but it wasn't to be.  He travelled like the best horse in the race wheel span in the softer ground which didn't look like it suited in the crunch part of the race.  I'm confident he'll be better on a return to a sounder surface.

ENNISKERRY was our Galway Plate Selection.  Whilst I'm not sure the standing start helped him, he still found himself in a promising position but just faded toward the end of the race. Maybe he didn't enjoy the step up in trip.

Bravery Landed a Winner ⚔

BLUE ROSE CEN was given a stinker of a ride and found herself trapped on the inside, ultimately giving her no chance of winning. She's capable of better than that.

Finally, then we were given another winner in the form of ZARAK THE BRAVE. Put up at 9/1 early last week he was backed into 9/2 favourite for the race.

He battled bravely right to the line to win the race & as predicted Willie Mullins has mentioned a Grade 1 campaign for him this season.

Trainer Form an Impact๐Ÿ”Ž?

Saturday saw us only have 2 selections run for us both at short prices for the Gosdens.

I was pretty confident in both FREE WIND & JEFF KOONS but both managed to lose at short prices, with the comments after the race both citing that the ground wasn't really suitable for them.

Despite the downpour being an obvious excuse I think there could be more going on than just the ground affecting them.  The Gosdens are currently operating at a 14% strike rate for the last 2 weeks, which is pretty poor by their standards.

Hopefully, the yard turn it around as I think both horses are capable of better than their weekend performances.

Please let me know how you think I can improve the blog. I will listen all suggestions and ideas.

Weekend Review - Hard Luck on the Right Track

Weekend Reflections - The Coral Eclipse       Paddington Pips Emily Upjohn Past the Post The Coral Eclipse: Paddington Proves He's top class๐Ÿป  In what turned out to be a weekend of hard luck for the blog, Paddington was out to prove me wrong & for the 3rd year in a row, the 3-year-olds reigned supreme in the Eclipse.  Speaking of the Eclipse, the race panned out very similarly to how I expected it to. West Wind Blows went forward but both Emily Upjohn & Paddington had too much speed for him. Unfortunately, Emily Upjohn lost a couple of lengths with a slow start and couldn't claw back enough ground to get in front of Paddington with his 7Ibs in hand. Nonetheless, it was a very impressive performance from both horses, but Paddington seriously has to be considered as the best 3-year-old in Europe now... someone get him a marmalade sandwich ๐Ÿฅช. Paddington and Emily Upjohn served us up an exhilarating battle in the Coral-Eclipse ...

Horse Racing Tips - 5th August

5th August - Bets for the Weekend Free Wind  Initially due to being away I wasn’t sure I’d have any bets this weekend but I’ve managed to have a look at some of the cards and some horses do appeal๐Ÿ‡ The NAP, NB & Longshot NAP (Best Bet) ๐Ÿ… Goodwood 3.00pm: Lillie Langtry Stakes (Group 2)  FREE WIND is the market favourite and it's easy to see why. She finished 5th at Ascot behind PYLEDRIVER, who has since run well in the King George last weekend.  She’s now stepping back up to 1m6f, with a course win to her name & unbeaten on any ground with soft in the description, she looks strong.  Frankie Dettori likely on board adds to her appeal. I’ll be having a bet on her now before odds shorten. FREE WIND to win at 7/4. NB (Next Best) ๐Ÿคž Doncaster 3.20pm: Novice Stakes  I've been keeping a close eye on JEFF KOONS, sired by the legendary FRANKEL and out of a DUBAWI Mare. A proven cross that produces good horses, like Derby winner ADAYAR. Earlier in t...

The York Ebor Festival - Tips for the Week

The York Ebor Festival - Fancies for the week York Racecourse There is some great racing ahead this week with racing at York taking centre stage๐Ÿ‡ Let's hope for a successful week ๐Ÿคž Wednesday 23rd August  York 2.25pm: Acomb Stakes (Group 3)  BALLYMOUNT BOY appears to be a solid favourite in this. His close 1L finish behind VANDEEK at Goodwood, who went out to win the G1 Prix Morny next time out, hints at his potential.  That was on soft ground but given his pedigree I think he may have preference for good ground and no rain expected until Friday, conditions seem favourable. The step up to 7f could also work in his favour given his breeding & to me all signs point to a strong showing from BALLYMOUNT BOY. BALLYMOUNT BOY to win at 9/4. York 3.00pm: Great Voltiguer Stakes (Group 2) This race is quite a puzzle with a small field, which often makes picking a bet a bit tricky. GREGORY is currently leading in the betting, but this shorter distance might not be his ide...
